It's a pattern. The page is different from the entry to the point that the site is a permanent entry, which, at most templates, is permanently located in the navigation section of the website. Most people start with an introduction page that presents them or their activities to visitors on the website. The introduction page could be something like:
Welcome to the Readers. I'm a biker pizza delivery guy by day, and I'm an aspiring actor at night, and this is my website.
I live in Budapest and have a wonderful German shepherd dog who listens to the name Velorex. My favorite cocktail is Piña Colada, but I also like Mojit very much. (But the real juice is a velvet red wine.)
... or something completely different:
XYZ Bízó Company was founded in 1971 and has since produced the best quality things. The centre of the company is located in Budapest, where more than 2000 people are employed and active in many social and charitable programmes.
